I Have the Best Girlfriends To!!!

Happy Wednesday!

I have been wanting to write about my girlfriends for awhile now but I didn't know where to start. I love them all and they are all very special to me, yet they all play a different role in my life. I can't say enough about my dear friend Karen! Whew! She has been there with me through it all! And I mean, "through it all"! I don't think I could have made it as easily without her. And her husband, Joel! I don't want to leave him out either because he has been there to! He also has and will always have that special place in my heart just like my girlfriends! My friend Karen and her husband Joel moved to Albuquerque a few years ago. I miss the lunches we use to have together but we email daily and it still feels like she is right there within reach. Fortunately last November I had the opportunity to fly over there with my friend Denise and visit her. We had such a great time! We all spent a day touring Albuquerque and Santa Fe and it was non stop talking and laughing! I can't wait to see her again! My life wouldn't be the same without her!

I also have my dear friend Colleen! Can you believe we met on a forum on the internet? We were both members of the South Beach diet forum and we were both struggling with our diets. We started talking and our personalities clicked immediately! After meeting on the forum we also started emailing on a daily basis. After two years of emailing daily there wasn't much we didn't know about each other. As it turned out we only lived about 15-20 minutes away from each other. We finally scheduled a lunch date and met in person. I'm not sure how many hours we sat there talking but we never missed a beat! It was like we had known each other all of our lives. To this day we still plan our lunch dates and get together about every 2-3 months. We still haven't run out of things to talk about! But, maybe that's a girl thing. Ha!

And then there is my friend Virginia. We worked for the same company for many, many years. We also emailed daily but our email chit chat consisted of girly talk and the company gossip. You know how it it! There's plenty of office politics going on to give you plenty to talk about all day long! She has moved on in her life and is no longer with the company but we still keep in touch. We still email and text each other and meet for lunch about every 2-3 months. She only lives a few miles away so she is with in reach also.

I can't forget about my dear friend Jenny. She's just a little sweet, short Mexican lady. But Man!! That girl can cook!!! She cooks so darn good that everyone tells her to hide the food when they see "Sharon" coming! :-) She gives me her recipes and I try to cook it like she does but it never turns out like hers. I'll just continue going to her house to eat her food! Ha! In fact, she has tamales waiting for me. I think I'll pick them up Friday for the week-end.

I also love my sweet Cuban friend Olga! She is the one who introduced me to Cuban food. Yes, I always have food on the brain! :-) Before I met Olga I had never tried Cuban food. I soon discovered I LOVE Cuban food! She has taken me to several Cuban restaurants and has shown me how to cook a few Cuban foods like Plantains. Yum! I love plantains! I love the fried ones and the sweet ones! Olga and I also meet every couple of months for our lunches. Once again, its always non stop chatter! But the one thing that always comes to mind when I think of Olga is her thoughtful gifts. When it comes to birthdays and Christmas gifts, she is tops! Her gifts are always so much fun and exciting! She always gives gift bags and they are always full of all kinds of goodies. You never know what you are going to get and that's the fun of it! Its always so much fun looking in that bag! Yep, she's a sweetie!

My friend Denise (who I went to Albuquerque with) lives right around the corner on the next block. She's really handy if I need someone to talk to immediately. :-) Both of our lives have been so busy that I haven't spent much time with her lately but we did meet on the freeway recently. Is a honk and a wave the same thing? :-) When our lives slow down a little bit we'll get caught back up again.

I also have my newest friend Selena. We met last summer when we were camping at a campground near Escondido, CA. My family and her family also clicked immediately. We had so much fun camping that we exchanged information and stayed in touch. We also met up at the end of summer and camped together again. I can't wait for warm weather to get here so we can all go camping again. Its always fun getting to know new friends. And the best part is she lives in San Diego. I love San Diego!! I want to move to San Diego so bad!! So visits to her house will always be enjoyable!

I don't have my friends pictures posted at the moment but as soon as I can get them together you'll see them.

Failure is NOT an option!

Happy Thursday!

I have had this draft sitting here for a few weeks now so I'm going to try and finish it tonight. I love to read and I love to learn! My most favorite books to read are educational, motivational and inspirational. I have been reading a very good book that I checked out from the library. The name of the book is "The 21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires" written by Brian Tracy. It's a thin book that can be read on your lunch break and I have really enjoyed it. It was very motivating. I would like to show you an excerpt from the book that I enjoyed and thought was interesting.

The fear of failure is the greatest single obstacle to success in adult life. Note that it is not failure itself. Failure makes you stronger and more resilient and more determined. It is the fear of failure or the anticipation of failure that can paralyze your thoughts and your activities and hold you back from even trying to do the things that you need to do to be a big success.

A young journalist once asked Thomas J. Watson Sr., the founder of IBM, how he could be more successful faster. Watson replied with these wonderful words: "If you want to be successful faster, you must double your rate of failure. Success lies on the far side of failure."

Dare to go forward. Self-made millionaires are not gamblers, but they are always willing to take calculated risks in the direction of their goals to achieve greater rewards. In fact, your attitude toward risk taking is probably the most important indicator of your readiness to become wealthy.

Whenever you are faced with a risky situation, ask yourself this question, What is the worst possible thing that could happen if I go ahead? Then as J. Paul Getty, the self-made oil billionaire, said, you should make sure that, whatever it is, it doesn't happen.

The fact is that everyone is afraid of failure. Everyone is afraid of loss and poverty. Everyone is afraid of making a mistake and being set back. But self-made millionaires are those who consciously and deliberately face this fear and take action anyway. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "Make a habit of doing the things you fear. If you do the thing you fear, the death of fear is certain."

When you act boldly, unseen forces will come to your aid. And every act of courage increases your courage and capacity for courage in the future. Whenever you take action in a forward direction with no guarantees of success, your fears diminish and your courage and self-confidence increase. You eventually reach the point where you are not afraid of anything.

Perhaps the best line from the movie Apollo 13 came from Eugene Krantz, head of mission control at NASA. When the people around him were starting to think about the possibility of losing the spacecraft and the astronauts, he pulled them all together by announcing in a loud voice, "Failure is not an option!"

Your job is to commit yourself to becoming a self-made millionaire. Your job is to set specific goals for yourself, write them down, and work toward them every day. And especially, you must continue to remind yourself, in the face of all the problems and difficulties that you will experience, that "Failure is not an option!" This is the attitude that, more than anything else, will guarantee your long-term success.

The rest of the book is excellent also. If you get a chance to get to the library, check it out! I thought it was a very good book!

I Love Southern California!

Here it is winter time and the date is January 12th and we reached temperatures of 85 degrees today! I was running my air conditioner in my car today! Unbelievable! But I love it! I guess that's one of the reasons I live here! According to the weatherman we will have temperatures in the 80's all week this week. Well, I think its supposed to be in the high 70's this week-end. :-) But I can live with that! The days sure have been beautiful! Since I moved to Socal I have not owned a winter coat. All I have are sweaters and that's all I have ever needed. I have received pictures from friends who have been snowed in lately. The pictures are awesome but I don't own a winter coat anymore so I wouldn't survive where they live. Here are a couple of pictures from my friends Gus and Charlene who live Idaho. They are from Socal so they know the weather here but they love living where they are in Idaho. Enjoy!

Brrrrrr!! That's cold!!! But those sure are some cool pictures!! I've never seen snow like that but I hope to one day "visit" snow like that. I think a day or two in snow like that is all I will ever need. :-) The pics sure are beautiful!

If you have any cool pics like that please send them to me! I would love to post them!
